My wife, Nancy, and I have been attending the Remembrance Day festivities since 1992. We began sponsoring this dinner/ball in 2003 so to have everything for the evening at one location instead of having to travel around and make multiple reservations. Beginning last year, we have partnered with Karen Duffy of St. Louis, MO to continue to bring not one, but two evenings of merriment during this festive weekend
We are introducing two new layers, a Masquerade and a Crystal Ball, to make each evening more enjoyable. These are optional but well worth the effort. Regular Civil War attire is always welcome. We invite you to join us in our fourteenth year at The President's Remembrance Day Ball which will be held on TWO nights, Friday and Saturday, November 18th & 19th, 2016 at the Hotel Gettysburg in Gettysburg, PA. Please come and join us for an evening of fine food, dancing and good company.
The Fourteenth Annual
Remembrance Day Dinner & Ball
Our fourteenth annual dinner/ball will be held at the Hotel Gettysburg on the Square on BOTH Friday and Saturday, November 18th & 19th, 2016 in the main ballroom. The evening begins both nights with a social hour at 5:30 PM with vocalists and the Dodworth Saxhorn Band. The dinner begins promptly at 6:30 PM.
After dinner, as the room is being readied for the Ball, there will be time to visit the sutlers, have your image taken by the Victorian Photography Studio or, weather permitting, even go out to the Square where the Dodworth Saxhorn Band will perform a short outdoor concert.
The Ball will begin at 8:30 PM. The seventeen piece Dodworth Saxhorn Band will provide the music and our dance masters, Karen Duffy on Friday night for the "1860s" Fancy Dress (Masquerade) Ball and Susan deGuardiola on Saturday night for the "Ball", will provide instruction for each dance on both evenings. With a full dance card, you can count on the evening lasting until midnight or later.
Aside from the musicians, each evening will be completely different - different food, music, dances, dance masters, flowers, door prizes and chocolate frames. The photographer will use different backdrops. In short, everything will be done to make each evening different from the other.
The Friday night event will be a recreation of an 1860's Fancy Dress (Masquerade) Ball with dance master Karen Duffy and The Dodworth Saxhorn Band. Pre-1865 themed costumes are encouraged but remain optional for those attending. This exciting theme offers you the opportunity to start off the weekend with a creative and amusing flourish and also allows you to take in the other events in town on Saturday, such as the Illumination at the Cemetery. For costume ideas please visit Karen's pinterest site at:
The Saturday night event offers the capping of another Remembrance Day weekend with a grand celebration themed as a Crystal Ball featuring dance master Susan de Guardiola and The Dodworth Saxhorn Band. Ladies are asked to wear a tiara (very popular in the 1860s) and to add crystals to their gowns or headpieces and use white flowers as dress accents. If you have a white or light pastel ballgown this would be the perfect ball to which to wear it! Gentlemen are asked to wear a white flower boutonniere. These suggestions are requested but are optional..
The ticket price for either evening is just 79.00 per person which includes the social hour, a three course dinner, all the usual gifts, the chocolate frames and great entertainment, Tickets are limited and sell-outs occur almost every year. When ordering tickets, please include the number of tickets needed, which night you will be attending, your email address and dinner selections. Tickets for just the Ball portion of the evenings are also available.
In addition to payments by check, we can now accept Paypal and most major credit cards. Just contact us for the details.
Period attire is required of all. And while this is an event for adults, any children attending must wear appropriate period attire.
In addition, I have 50 rooms reserved at the Hotel Gettysburg and another 50 around town with prices starting at $189.00 plus tax a night and additional rooms just out of town starting at $80.00 a night. All rooms are available as a two night minimum and are on a first come-first served basis.
